- Reference, courage and measurement敢 concerns willingness to risk an action, demonstratives distribute or identify members, and classifiers describe objects or events. Borrowed measures such as 一脸汗 turn a surface or space into a measure of what covers or fills it.5 grammar points
- Fine control of degree and stanceAt this level, adverbs increasingly tell us how speakers assess timing, intention, certainty or surprise. Separate information about the event from the speaker's attitude. 往往 describes a pattern, whereas 竟然 highlights a violation of expectations.8 grammar points
- Formal connections and responsibilityThese prepositions and connectors organize time, cause, basis, roles and participants in more extended writing. A single form such as 将 may be a future marker or a disposal marker. Interpret its syntactic job before choosing a lesson link.10 grammar points
- Compact expressions and evaluationFour-character expressions often preserve conventional pairings. Other frames indicate ample supply, lack of time, possibility or reformulation. Learn their pragmatic meaning and distribution rather than building new phrases by blind substitution.9 grammar points
- Domains, examples and persistenceSet frames let you compare a series, restrict a discussion to one aspect, choose an example, describe repeated failure or commit to never repeating something. These frames change the scope and strength of the claim.7 grammar points
- Conversation: insistence and concessionThese spoken constructions perform social actions: dismissing worries, keeping matters separate, insisting on compliance or accepting a drawback. Their tone is part of what must be learned. A grammatically correct sentence can still be too forceful for a new acquaintance.11 grammar points
- Extreme degree, feasibility and challengeDegree complements can be hyperbolic, potential 了 is pronounced liǎo, and rhetorical questions rely on shared expectations. Do not confuse a literal event with an expressive degree construction or a real information gap with a challenge.4 grammar points
- Disposal, passives and causing action把 constructions can specify a brief, completed, measured or qualified action. 叫/让 may be passive markers, while pivotal constructions use a participant as both an object and the actor of a following predicate. Track the roles, not just the keywords.8 grammar points
- Comparative judgment and strong affirmation不如 explicitly indicates falling short; 跟…相比 sets a comparative frame; double negatives can strengthen a claim or express necessity. Preserve these differences when paraphrasing instead of simplifying every sentence into a plain positive or negative.3 grammar points
- Structuring an explanationCorrect an account with 不是…而是, combine properties with 既…又, separate aspects with 一方面, and order points or steps with 首先. 于是 then advances a narrative through a resulting event.6 grammar points
- Progression and qualificationAdd a stronger point with 不仅 or 甚至, draw on an extreme example with 连…都, and acknowledge qualifications with 尽管、然而 or 不过. These expressions carry argumentative structure, not merely extra emphasis.9 grammar points
- Conditions, exceptions and reasons否则 supplies a fallback when a condition fails; 不管 and 无论 hold an outcome constant across alternatives; 既然 reasons from an accepted fact. Distinguish what is established from what is merely imagined.7 grammar points
- Purpose, concession and compressed logic好 can introduce a purpose, 即使 maintains a result under an obstacle, and compact clauses leave some logical relationship implicit. Reconstruct the meaning from the full context before assigning a causal, conditional or concessive label.5 grammar points
- Approximation and numerical relationships来、左右 and 大约 mark estimates. Fractions, percentages and multiples encode precise mathematical relationships when no estimate is present. Distinguish a new total from its increase relative to the original.3 grammar points
